About RTI Act
The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 is a law that gives every citizen of India the right to ask for information from government offices, including government-aided colleges.
Through RTI, anyone can:
- Know how decisions are made in public institutions.
- Ask for records, rules, or official documents.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in administration.
Public authorities must reply within 30 days (or 48 hours if it is a matter of life or liberty). If the reply is not satisfactory, the applicant can appeal to higher authorities.
RTI helps students, teachers, and citizens to stay informed, check misuse of power.

Institutional Setup: RTI Cell
Santipur College has an active RTI Cell, administered under the Principal / Teacher-in-Charge’s supervision, with the PIO and FAA as its members. The Cell assists in managing applications, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with Section 4(1)(b) of the RTI Act.

RTI Appeals and Response Time
As per standard RTI guidelines, the PIO replies within 30 days (48 hours if involving life or liberty). If a reply isn’t received or is unsatisfactory, a First Appeal can be lodged with the FAA within 30 days.
