Purpose

The purpose of Her Space. She Speaks is to nurture a culture of respect, equality, and empowerment within the college community. It seeks to provide women with a voice, inspire students to embrace diversity, and build an environment where every dream is valued and every strength recognized.

Functioning

Her Space. She Speaks functions as an inspirational platform within the college website.

Awareness / empowerment program

This page is dedicated to the women faculty and staff of Santipur College, who inspire and guide students with their strength and commitment. It serves as a platform to raise awareness and encourage action. Through discussions, workshops, campaigns, and creative initiatives, the college motivates students to:

1. Build confidence and leadership skills.
2. Understand and practice gender equality.
3. Raise awareness on issues of health, safety, and rights.
4. Engage in community service and outreach activities that empower women.

We hold a range of programs to build awareness and empower students, such as:

1. Seminars and workshops on gender sensitization to promote equality and inclusivity.
2. Self-defense training and health camps to ensure safety and well-being.
3. Observance of International Women’s Day (8 March)
4. Observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November).

Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme – Supporting College Education

Introduced by the Department of Women Development and Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal, Kanyashree Prakalpa aims to improve the status of the girl child by promoting education and preventing early marriage. While the scheme supports school-level enrolment and reduces dropouts among teenage girls, its primary focus at the college level is to encourage higher education and help girls continue their studies without financial burden.

Key college-level objectives include:

1. Providing financial assistance to girls from disadvantaged families to pursue undergraduate or vocational studies.
2. Encouraging continued enrolment in college courses and reducing dropouts among low-income students.
3. Supporting girls to delay marriage until after completing higher education.
4. Empowering young women to achieve academic and professional goals.

Eligible college students receive Rs 1,000 annually until age 18 and a one-time grant of Rs 25,000 between ages 18 and 19, enabling them to continue their education with confidence and independence.

Women’s Achievements

We express admiration, respect, and appreciation for all the women connected with Santipur College — including faculty, staff, students, and alumnae. Our girl students have achieved remarkable success across academics, sports, cultural programs, NSS, NCC, and other pursuits, demonstrating perseverance, talent, and a drive to excel. Several girl cadets have received prizes and honors from the Governor of West Bengal and have proudly participated in the Republic Day parade. The college is proud of its pioneering women leaders, including our first woman principal, Dr. Chandrima Bhattacharyya (01.07.2015 – 31.01.2023), and the first woman teacher-in-charge, Dr. Suchismita Sanyal (01.02.2024 – 05.01.2025). Women faculty and staff contribute significantly by publishing in research journals, taking classes, mentoring students, managing administrative responsibilities, and staying long hours to support college functioning. They skillfully use technology and work alongside their male counterparts, shaping the academic and personal growth of students. From full-time teachers and SACT members to office personnel, their dedication and guidance leave a lasting impact on the college community.
