About Department

The Department of Physical Education of Santipur College is committed to promoting fitness, discipline, and all-round development through sports and physical activities. Recognising that a healthy body is the foundation of a healthy mind, the department encourages students to engage in a wide range of games, athletics, and wellness programmes that foster teamwork, leadership, and resilience.

Apart from classroom instruction, the department actively organises various competitions and the Annual College Sports, offering students a platform to display their skills, pursue excellence, and cultivate a spirit of healthy competition. Many of our students have represented the college with distinction at district, state, and university levels.

In addition, the department arranges health awareness programmes, yoga sessions, and fitness workshops, nurturing not only physical strength but also mental well-being. With a vision to build character, promote fair play, and instil lifelong values through sports, the Department of Physical Education remains an integral part of student life at Santipur College.

Objective

Functioning

The Department of Physical Education functions effectively with the sincere efforts of one teacher and one non-teaching staff member. Though limited in manpower, they try their level best to conduct classes, organise sports activities, and manage departmental responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

Future Plans

  1. To upgrade sports facilities with modern equipment and better infrastructure.
  2. To introduce specialized training programmes in athletics, yoga, and fitness.
  3. To organise more inter-college and inter-university tournaments to widen student exposure.
  4. To establish tie-ups with local sports academies and fitness centres for professional training.
  5. To encourage greater student participation in state and national level competitions.
  6. To conduct regular workshops, health awareness camps, and seminars on fitness and wellness.
  7. To utilize the indoor gymnasium effectively for year-round physical activities and training programmes.
  8. To promote research and innovation in the field of sports and physical education.
