About AISHE
The All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) is an annual web-based exercise conducted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, since 2010–11. It provides comprehensive and reliable data on the status of higher education across the country, covering universities, colleges, standalone institutions, and institutes of national importance.
The survey collects information on various parameters such as faculty, student enrolment, academic programmes, examination results, finances, and infrastructure. From this data, important indicators of educational development—such as Institution Density, Gross Enrolment Ratio, Pupil–Teacher Ratio, Gender Parity Index, and Per Student Expenditure—are derived. These indicators serve as valuable inputs for policy-making, planning, and research aimed at strengthening the higher education sector.
Objectives of AISHE
- To collect and maintain data on the number of institutions, student enrolment, and teaching/non-teaching staff.
- To analyze the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education.
- To provide information on infrastructure, financial aid, scholarships, and examination results.
- To identify trends in equity (gender, caste, and region-wise participation).
- To act as a database for policy formulation, planning, and monitoring of higher education in India.
Methodology
- Data is collected online through a specially designed portal.
- Every institution is given a unique AISHE code.
- Institutions upload details such as faculty, programmes, student enrolment, examination results, infrastructure, and finance.
- Validation and cross-checking of data are carried out by state nodal officers and national-level teams.
Significance of AISHE
- Provides data for National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation.
- Helps in planning expansion of institutions and allocation of funds.
- Acts as a tool for monitoring progress in inclusion, quality, and employability in higher education.
- Assists in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

Santipur College AISHE data
Santipur College has been regularly submitting AISHE data since 2013–14 under the supervision of the College Nodal Officer. Information related to student enrolment, examination results, teaching and non-teaching staff, infrastructure, finances, scholarships, and other academic parameters are reported through the prescribed Data Capture Format (DCF-II) and Teachers Information Format (TIF-II). The College has also successfully submitted the AISHE data for the year 2023–24.
Conclusion
The All India Survey on Higher Education is a crucial initiative that provides valuable insights into the progress and challenges of the Indian higher education system. While enrolment and gender parity have shown improvement, issues like regional imbalance, quality of education, employability, and research output still need attention. With continuous monitoring and the support of NEP 2020, India aims to achieve a GER of 50% by 2035 and build a globally competitive higher education system.
